Get to know Dr. Alexandra Mele as she describes who and what she likes to treat and the therapies she uses the most. She is a kind, caring, and highly skilled physician that can help you achieve your health goals.
Dr. Mele found the field of naturopathic medicine upon entering the search for graduate programs pertaining to environmental science. Her love of the natural world and pursuit of a career in medicine collided when discovering naturopathic medicine and the vitalistic traditions of healing.
In her residency she has taught hundreds of clinical students, and there is no greater passion for her than providing mentorship for future naturopathic physicians. Her favorite principle of naturopathic medicine is ‘Docere’ or ‘doctor as teacher’ as she so enjoys helping patients make connections and learn new things in their healing path.
Dr. Mele honors the vitalist traditions of naturopathic medicine while intertwining evidence-based clinical practice. Dr. Mele is also a Registered Herbalist (RH) through the American Herbalists Guild and enjoys working with patients to find their own herbal allies. Dr. Mele continues to be a steward for the land and works closely with creating right relationship with the plants of the desert Southwest. Dr. Mele has a special interest in treating women’s health, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune diseases, hypermobility spectrum disorders (hEDS), and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).
The body is interconnected and intelligent, and diseases that affect multiple organ systems, especially autoimmune diseases, strongly and profoundly benefit from a holistic approach and perspective. Herbs, movement, nutrition and hydrotherapy are the roots of natural medicine- and help to subtly shift the body’s energetic signature toward health and healing. Dr. Mele primarily focuses on these modalities of treatment along with many hours of advanced training in Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and Visceral Manipulation. Not only do these techniques shift physical symptoms but are also effective for nervous system regulation and somatically working through emotional trauma. Dr. Mele believes the patient is their own healing force, she is simply there to facilitate and provide the tools for the journey.
